Before downloading

Confirm the platform, architecture, and usage scenario first

Client names may look similar, but their supported platforms, package formats, and maintenance status differ. Making these three checks before downloading helps avoid launch failures and architecture mismatches.

Operating system

Select the system actually running on the device, rather than relying on the device brand. Windows uses EXE installers, macOS uses DMG files, Android uses APK files, and Linux commonly uses DEB, RPM, or AppImage. iPhone and iPad users install Clash Plus through the App Store.

Processor architecture

Most Windows desktops use x64. Macs with M-series chips use Apple Silicon or ARM64, while Intel Macs use x64. Recent Android devices usually use arm64-v8a; older devices may require armeabi-v7a. An architecture mismatch can prevent the installer from launching.

GUI or core

GUI clients provide interfaces for importing configurations, switching policy groups, enabling the system proxy, and viewing logs, making them suitable for everyday computers and phones. Mihomo is a standalone core that runs through configuration files, the command line, or another management panel, mainly for servers, routers, and self-managed network environments.

Desktop downloads for Windows 10 and Windows 11. Most users should start with the installer, complete the setup wizard, and then import a configuration. On enterprise-managed or restricted devices, first confirm that network proxy applications are permitted.

How to identify a router’s architecture

Do not guess from the router model alone. Check the CPU architecture and ABI in the device management page, firmware status page, or terminal. ARM64, ARMv7, and MIPS are not interchangeable; MIPS devices also require the correct endianness and floating-point ABI. The MIPS package on this page is specifically for soft-float environments.

How to run a compressed package

After downloading .gz, extract it to obtain the executable, grant execute permission, and use the command line to specify the working directory or configuration file. For long-running processes, use a system service to prevent the process from stopping when the terminal closes.

Installation flow

Configuration steps after downloading

Installing the client is only the first step. Importing, checking, and enabling the configuration in a fixed order makes it easier to locate parsing, system proxy, and policy-selection issues.

STEP 01

Complete the installation

Complete the desktop setup wizard, move the macOS app to Applications, install the APK on Android, or open the app from the App Store on iOS. On first launch, review prompts about network permissions, the firewall, or network configuration, and approve access only after understanding its purpose.

STEP 02

Import a configuration

Add a usable subscription URL on the configuration or subscription page, or import a compatible local configuration file. After importing, check for YAML parsing errors, unsupported fields, or download failures. Keep the original subscription URL rather than overwriting your only configuration copy.

STEP 03

Choose a mode and policy

For regular use, start with Rule mode so domains and addresses follow the configured connection rules. Then open the main policy group and choose an available entry. Global mode routes more connections through one policy and is useful for short tests, but should not be enabled long-term without understanding its scope.

STEP 04

Enable and verify

Enable the system proxy or network takeover feature according to the client’s capabilities, then test the connection in a browser. If only some apps fail, check whether they follow the system proxy. If everything fails, check the configuration status, current policy, log errors, DNS, and local network in that order.

Which Clash client should I download first?

Most desktop and mobile users should start with Clash Plus for their platform. For more detailed desktop configuration management, choose Clash Verge Rev on Windows, macOS, or Linux. If you want a similar interface across systems, consider FlClash.

The Mihomo core requires you to prepare configurations, startup parameters, and a process-management method yourself. If you are unfamiliar with the command line, system services, and network forwarding, you do not need to download the core separately.

What is the difference between the Windows installer and ZIP archive?

The EXE installer writes program files through a setup wizard and creates launch shortcuts as designed by the app, making it suitable for normal desktop use. A ZIP archive must be extracted to a stable folder, with updates and removal managed manually, making it suitable for portable folders or controlled test environments.

Do not run the program directly from a ZIP preview window. If you choose ZIP, extract it completely and avoid directories that are frequently synchronized, automatically cleaned, or permission-restricted.

Should I choose the Apple Silicon or Intel version on macOS?

Open About This Mac from the Apple menu. If the chip name starts with M1, M2, M3, M4, or another M-series designation, choose Apple Silicon or ARM64. If it shows an Intel processor, choose Intel x64. The correct architecture usually reduces translation dependencies and compatibility issues.

How should I choose between arm64, arm, and universal on Android?

Recent Android phones and tablets generally use arm64-v8a. Older 32-bit ARM devices use armeabi-v7a. Clash Meta for Android offers a universal package; choose it when the architecture is unknown, keeping in mind that it is usually larger than a single-architecture package.

If installation immediately reports that the device is incompatible, recheck the system version and CPU architecture instead of repeatedly installing the same file.

Which devices are suited to the Mihomo core?

The Mihomo core is mainly used on servers, routers, gateway devices, development boards, containers, and environments managed through scripts. Users need to understand configuration paths, permissions, logs, system services, DNS, and forwarding rules. For everyday computers and phones, a GUI client is more straightforward.

Why can’t I connect immediately after installing the client?

The client itself does not include a ready-to-use connection configuration. After installation, import a valid subscription or local configuration, confirm that it parses successfully, choose an operating mode and policy group, and enable the system proxy or network takeover feature for the device platform.

If the connection fails after enabling it, first check the first clear error in the client log. Then check subscription updates, configuration fields, the current policy, system time, DNS, and the local network in order. Avoid changing multiple settings at once.
